It is crucially important to understand that all enforcement today is "intelligence-led" - providing for targeted, pre-scripted and appropriately resourced tactical operations, in addition to immediate response when possible. Incoming information, and the proper sharing of that information with partners is vital. The more information we have regarding offenders is good news for law-abiding anglers - and bad news for criminals.
The Angling Trust Fisheries Enforcement Support Service exists to support the Environment Agency, the lead statutory agency on fisheries enforcement, in the difficult task of protecting fish and fisheries. Our six Regional Enforcement Managers are all highly experienced retired police officers, coordinating a multi-agency approach, initiating high profile and ongoing operations including TRAVERSE, LEVIATHAN and CLAMP DOWN, and running the Voluntary Bailiff Service - all in formal partnership with the Environment Agency.
Our Regional Enforcement Managers will be feeding information from contributing partners, including the Environment Agency, UK National Wildlife Crime Unit, Cefas and individual police forces, alerting anglers regarding offences and incidents in their areas. The Angling Trust/Environment Agency enforcement partnership is delighted to provide this unprecedented and innovative communication tool, which is multi-lingual, for the benefit of protecting fish and fisheries.
